About Us

The climate of bookstores has changed greatly from 1999 when we opened our shop in Grand Central Terminal to 2009 when we opened our second location in Chelsea Market. Where once the independent was threatened by the rise of the superstore, now all brick-and-mortar shops must contend with an ever evolving technological landcape of e-commerce and e-readers. However, while there are some who have lamented the challenges the future has brought us, we at Posman's have seen opportunities to evolve, expand and grow stronger as a New York City independent bookstore.

As a family owned business of over 30 years, Posman Books upholds the traditional independent's standards of an experienced and well read staff, an unbiased yet discriminating selection and a commitment to the communities we serve. Without sacrificing any of these ideals, we have always adapted to the demands of the new marketplace. In 2011, we were able to extensively remodel our Chelsea Market location to provide an expansive children's section, a versatile event space and an all-around sleek and innovative design. Also, in November of 2011, Posman Books achieved another milestone: opening a beutifully designed and brand new store in Rockefeller Center.
